Two towns coexist the only current living forest
Elders told us tales of war and flesh and body
Now there’s only fur and rind with seeds
Just peace when no one bleeds
Meet your new protagonist
A fruit man made of orange, hair he never changes
His exchanges pleasant, empty
Not particularly ever interesting
Walking home from work that same day
He strays from the path he always treads
He fills with dread shrugs and thinks he’ll head
down to the forest skunks live there but at least he knows it
The sky pushes to grayscale
Heads towards the land of fur and tails
Trees curl to shapes like menacing faces
Follow a path that seems to have erased
Our orange mans heart thumps in steady tempo
But how’s it him if we can hear it also
He listens closer, could be, is it music
Colored lights appear when he gets closer to it
He comes across a party
Moving in circles, anything but empty
Who’s that? Brown coat glinting in the center
Our protagonist feels immediate connection to her
He notices the crown, the squirrel queen of fovea
Her servants fight to dance close to her
Orange man notices their struggle
He figures, why not, and joins the tussle
Starts on the outside, his confidence is low
He squares his shoulders, and starts to move slow
He picks it up, and gets into the music
He’s getting closer, he notices he’s groovin
Can almost see her, he pushes past her servants
He’s never felt anything, but now he feels determined
He loses focus of her partner in the rhythm
Opens his eyes, looks into hers, her partner’s him

Faded memories of meeting at the dance
Knew it from the first glance
They would meet again, maybe this was fate
Driving on the highway, 9th date
She found he was stable, he fond she’d be able
To love entirely
He found he could
with her
It was easy
In a green
Cadillac
Smile back
At your lover
You ask
If you can share the crown with her
She said yeah baby
You know it
Faded memories of meeting at the dance
Knew it from the first glance
They would meet again, maybe this was fate
Driving on the highway, 17th date
Orange king of fova
Ooooh
You know
It was true love to them
Faded memories of meeting at the dance
Knew it from the first glance
They would meet again, maybe this was fate
Driving on the highway, 59th date
The town thought
She was beautiful
But she didn’t need a family

Ruling over a kingdom that you don’t belong to
King dumb-struck in love nobody would’ve ever suspected you
Just you and her in a castle made to fit the entire town
Smile stuck under the heavy weight of your lover’s crown
And then you start to notice
What have you done to yourself?
You start to notice whispers behind your back
The darkness that hides in the crack of her teeth when she smiles
When you get angry she’s gets mad back
Where is that gentle beauty you walked down the isle
You start to think you know when she lies
You think you’re seeing servants cry when backs are turned
You’re not the reason, no, you’re kind
You think of course its her
What has she done to them?
sit in the mirror, rile yourself up
You think you ought to stand up
For your people
You hear the bath water running
Get angrier you’re her husband
But you’ve never seen her unclad
You’re storming down your hallways
Fists to the side as you
Get near to your wife
You open the brass doorknob
You start to peak inside
It’s not the brown coat that’s familiar
There’s something else hiding underneath
You realize a skunk is what you married
You start screaming through your teeth

There is somethin’ about you baby
There is somethin about you darlin
There is somethin about you
You light me on fire
Dancing at the royal club i always go
I was courted by someone i didn’t know
A low status fruit of untold origins
Thought i loved him for a year then changed my mind
Saw the monster that was hidden deep behind
Citrus colored skin
Treat my servants like slaves you can boss around
Slap their faces assume i can’t hear the sound
Afraid if i yell then i’ll recieve it to
There was somethin’ about you baby
There was somethin about you darlin
There was somethin about you
You light me on fire
I was raised to bear a crown and live a lie
Knew from birth i couldn’t tell or i would die
In the end i knew it all would end like this
Figures my first love would kill me in the end
Wooden tombstone from my first and only friend
Its my first gift and for that i smile
There was somethin’ about you baby
There was somethin about you darlin
There was somethin about you
You lit me on fire
In the rubble you’ll hear laughter till it fades
Distant memories i hope, i pray it stays
Let the skunk queen of feauva haunt you all
